Back up game files on my desktop how do I get them back in the game?

My system mechanic warned me to make a back up of my files because there was a hardware problem. I was also instructed to contact windows help which I stupidly did. The 'expert' had me do a custom reinstall. I was supposed to have a file called windows.old but its not there and of all the stupid stuff that could have backed up successfully it was my sims game. But it wouldn't restore so I had to move each zipped file onto my desk top. When I extracted them they make a new open file on my desk top. How do I get them from my desk top back to the game. I had to reinstall the game itself after this fiasco.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've already spent 2 days on this and am deep into day three.

move your files on desktop to data folder in program files\ea\maxis\the sims 2\data folder. the path may not be exact but you can find it. it worked for me on the sims. it should work on the sims 2 too.
