How to make a light work?

I need to make a lighting fixture and turn it on in the class. How to make the connection of the light bulb to the power to make it work? Thanks a lot!

You can buy those anywhere, they are called "lamps" and contain a line cord, switch and screw-in socket.

You can buy an old lamp at a flea market and take it apart and get all the pieces, the socket, switch, and cord.

Or you can go to a hardware store or home depot and get a socket, switch and cord and wire them together.

If you want to do it low voltage (I assume this is required), get a battery clip, switch, bulb and socket base at Radio Shack. Mount these to a piece of wood, wire 'em up and you're good to go.

If you want to use a regular bulb, that needs to be done with safety in mind since you're working with household current (115V AC). I don't recommend it for a school project.

An in-between solution would be to use a low-voltage outdoor lighting transformer and a switch. This would be safe since the part you're working with is 12V AC. You can get the transformer, switches, wire and bulbs at a home center or hardware store.
