not really sure what you're asking here. even with a pc card, assuming its a wireless card, you'll still need a router to act as the gateway between your wired LAN and Wireless infrastructure (in this case, the wireless pc card).

if you are referring to a cellular modem when saying "pc card", that can get expensive, have slow transfer speeds and be very expensive.

I would recommend having the wireless router and relying on the wireless only when not within reach of an ethernet cable to directly attach your laptop to the router.

  • Wireless Routers don't go into a laptop. They can be used with a laptop to get onto the Internet.

A PC card can plug into a laptop and can be used to connect to a Wireless router to get onto the Internet.

They also make PC cards that connect via a ethernet card to a router.

Routers also require that you have Internet service provided by a provider, either DSL orcablel via a Modem. Without that, neither is going to help you.

Note: Most laptops these days don't need a PC card. They come withwirelesss and are ready to connect to a wireless router if available.

IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT MOBILE LIKE AT A STARBUCKS OR ANY PLACE THAT HAS FREE WIRELESS FOR LAPTOPS,YOU PC CARD IS ALL THAT YOU NEED.IF YOU WANT TO CONNECT AT HOME AND WANT TO HAVE YOUR OWN PERSONAL WIRELESS NETWORK THAN YOU WILL NEED A WIRELESS ROUTER AND CABLE OR DSL INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDED THRU A EXTERNAL MODEM SUPPLIED BY THE ISP CONNECTED TO YOUR ROUTER THAT WILL THEN SEND THE WIRELESS SIGNAL TO YOUR WIRELESS PC CARD INSIDE YOUR LAPTOP FOR WIRELESS HOME INTERNET.
