The carpet capital of the world is just 1 hour north of Atlanta in Dalton. Every major carpet manufacturer in the US has a mill in Dalton GA.

Rent a truck, take a drive and bring home your carpet for way less than you could find even at the bargain warehouses here in town.

Find a local installer or do the job yourself.

The best place I can suggest is not really in Metro Atlanta, but in Dalton GA. Carpets of Dalton.

Home Depot has some really nice carpet...and some that is not so nice. EDIT: for resale value, you might think about putting in wood flooring rather than carpet. Hardwood, bamboo, or laminate. Those seem to be what people want these days.

There are a lot of budget carpet outlets in Atlanta but if you can drive up to Dalton you can get a bigger bargain going directly to the mills.
