Desktop No Icons problem?

I am on my moms friend computer, and she has a problem with her desktop.

Two weeks ago, all the icons on it disappeared. She tried dragging the icons back onto the desktop to replace them, but as soon as she dragged it, it didn't show up. I tried to do a system restore; but there were no saved times . . .

I just downloaded AVG on her computer, and it doesn't say she has a virus.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks =)

    Ctrl, Alt and Delete. That starts task manager. Under Processes Tab, make sure "explorer.exe" is running.
