Is there a 'national' data-base/website of obituaries/recorded deaths?

I've lost track of nearly a dozen friends/associates over the years, and I suspect that some of them have passed away. Is there a simple website I could go to, as these folks lived across the span of several different states.? Thanks much

Hmmm...I'm not aware of one. But I really wanted to thank you for the answer you gave to MY question, and the thought and time you put into it. When someone has an experience that is strange and scary to them it's a blessing to have someone to help them figure out what the heck is going on.
