By itself, the Wii will not read DVDs. However, it is possible by hacking your Wii and installing the Homebrew Channel. There are videos all over Youtube on how to do this. Again, this requires hacking and you can easily mess up your Wii.

The Wii doesn't play DVD's, but a DVD player does. And so does a computer. I don't think it will break the Wii if you insert a DVD, it's just that there would be a blank screen.

The Wii doesn't have a dvd player. You can put them in but it won't be able to read the disk.

While the Wii has the hardware to support DVD playback, it doesn't have the software to do so.
In order to get the software, you'll have to install the Homebrew Channel ( http://hbc.hackmii.com/ ) & then install DVDX (the DVD / media player)
WARNING! -- THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL IS AN UNOFFICIAL CHANNEL! INSTALLING THE CHANNEL WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY & WILL VIOLATE NINTENDO'S USAGE POLICY!
IN SHORT, INSTALL & USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
