The original Olympic Games were celebrated from 776 B.C. until 339 A.D.

Christians never had the power to ban the original Olympic Games, however, they probably condemned them because the original Olympic Games celebrated the Greek gods of Olympus (hence the name, "Olympics"). Since Christianity regards the gods of Oympus as false gods, they certainly would have condemned the original Olympic Games.

Mark C hit it right on the button. Christianity didn't exist during the time of the original Olympics.

No the Romans did indirectly when they conquered Greece. Since they had their own style of sport/entertainment the olympics was forgotten
