My debit card got charged twice for the same purchase?!@$%!!?

I made a purchase on my debit card the other day, $145. the debit machine was not working properly and it said error twice. Finally they ran it as credit and it went through.

When I got home I looked on my online banking and I had been charged once and credited the $145. back and then charged the $145. again and then charget the $145. again! So I was charged twice.

I called the business and they said it wasn't their fault that I would have to go through the bank, and they only show that I was charged once.

I called the bank and they said that they can't reverse a charge to my card only the business can.

So, what should I do? Should I go into the bank tomorrow and have them look it up and have them call the business to get them to reverse it?? This whole thing is totally f-ed up ane each is saying the other haas to contact them =/

    Well this is not the bank's fault, it is actually the fault of the merchant. However, you should be able to go to the bank fill out a dispute form and the bank can file a claim with MasterCard or Visa (depends what logo is on your debit card.

    The bank should give you provisional credit within about three days and if the bank finds you did not make the two charges, the credit should stay and the bank would have gotten the $145 from the merchant.

    The bank has to fill out this form, you have to sign it and demand a copy of it. If you are unable to file this claim, they are most likely in violation of their agreement with Visa or MasterCard.

    Well there are two things you can try. First you can try to call the corporate office of the business and see if they can do anything.If they cannot then go to the bank and file an affidavit. basically an affidavit is a form you fill out for fraudulent charges or charges that you didn't authorize. The bank will then investigate the claim and refund the money back to you. Keep in mind it might take up to 45 days.

    sounds like you got in touch with a lazy customer service rep at the bank. Also, the weekend reps are totally useless... call again on the weekday where the reps that actually know what they're doing are working... dispute the extra charge. Any intelligent customer service rep will see all of these charges happening within a few minutes, if not seconds.

    This happened to me just two weeks ago. First of all, wait a few days for the transactions to clear. I got triple charged and one of them disappeared on its own. Then take proof of the double charge to the business and show them. A printout of your online banking is not sufficient because of the situation I just described. You'll need an actual bank statement. If they don't cooperate that's what small claims court is for. It's cheap, you'll get your money, and in my state the winner automatically gets a prevailing party fee of $100, plus court costs plus whatever they were suing for.

    As suggested, wait for the statement. If there is a double charge, call the bank and inform them either correct the problem or you'll file a complaint with the FTC. Their toll free #1-877-382-4357. As you learned, being nice doesn't get you any where

    Tell your bank that business charged you fraudulently. They will investigate it. Call your bank at lease twice a week and ask them for a progress report. They may "forget" about you if you don't. It may take a month or two to get your money back. Good luck.

    print out a transaction statement and go to the store and show them your statement. if they don't do nothing you can dispute the charge.

    if they do either give you a refund or void.

    a refund is instant it should be back in your account instantly

    if they void, that can take a few days. it really depends on how long the bank wants to hold on to that charge for. so mention the refund to whoever takes care of it.

    Keep in mind that the bank doesn't have the money. The bank LOST it.

    The company you purchased from should be legally obligated to issue a refund. If they don't, you can:

    1) Take it to the Better Business Bureau

    2) Bring legal action

    3) Call about it, blog about it, and make their lives hell

    4) Beat the crap outta the guy that sold it to you

    get a copy of your bank statement showing it was charged twice then go to the business. the business should be first to act because they will be able to reverse it faster than the bank will. if you can bring in the statement to prove it got charged twice, they have nothing to argue against you with
