Is right to put up a cross at Flight 93's crash site made from steel from the twin towers?

Not all the passengers on board Flight 93 were Christians. Not all the victims of 9/11 were Christians. I believe that if you put up the cross you should put up the religious symbols of all religions and one for atheists also. If you cannot do this, then you should take down the cross. I seem to remember that the US Government bought the land at the Flight 93 crash site. Doesn't it make putting religious symbols on it illegal?

Update:

The cross was put up on August 24, 2008.

Cross would be a bad choice. Bud some kind of monument is certainly in order.

What do we have artists for? Hire a sculptor to make a statue commemorating the deaths of innocent people. Something spiky and gloomy and not resembling a plane.

I believe you have a an issue with faith and its public expression. If an organization or group desire to place a memorial with religious symbols at the site, good. If a mosque, temple, church, or assembly desires to do so out of respect for deceased members great!

The separation of Church and State is to restrict a state religion and promote the freedom of religious expression. You propose suppression! The majority of houses of worship and polling respondents are Christian. Majority rule is the core of democracy, so why should your minority view be dictated to the rest of us?

I have lived within a theocracy, the US is far from it. Acceptance of faith here is the most liberal in the world.

I think a memorial is fine, but not a cross. As you said, not all the people that died were Christian. Some people just have no sense. I'll bet a lot of Christians would think it was just fine and assume the rest of society is as thrilled about it as they are.

As to the legality, if it is privately funded, on private property it would be legal, but for the government a big no no.

Think about this, if your spouse died by someone shooting them with a gun would you then make a replica of that gun and wear it around your neck to kind of actually worship or venerate it?

I wouldn't want one whether I am or not a Christian as I don't think crosses are right.

The cross needs to go. It needs to be gone YESTERDAY.

What is sad is that it doesn't occur to the people who erected it how inappropriate and disrespectful it is to those of other religions who died there. Or sadder- they likely don't care.

It should be illegal if government funds built it.

I think it's ridiculous to 'mark the spot'.

They probably should put different symbols up, yes.

    Seems rather appropriate.
