Would we as Christians be better off praying for Obama and McCain, or campaigning for them ?

The prayers of a righteous man availeth much. I believe that there is much power in prayer. Would we not do better praying for each of these candidates and asking God to help us vote for the right person. Or should we squable among ourselves and then go and vote ? We must not forget that God put Pharaoh and Pilot in office.

Update:

Here is two examples of what i am talking about........

Kayla K "God is already in charge and knows what He is doing {so what is your problem}? He will see to it that who He wants will get in office, one that will fit in his overall plan. I hate to say it but obama fits the bill :(

POET..who are you to call them 'stupid'?? I happen to like the American people and think they are overall nice, friendly, outgoing people who will help others. Can you say the same?? btw...I am Canadian"

Jay L "do you really think obama is good? {i think he sucks} and hope mccain beats him!! if you disagree you should go vote for obama on this site.."

Update 2:

roxyskip...: My friend you are mistaken. Please read Exodus 9:16 and John 19:11. Here you will find that God did put these men in office. Had God not wanted them there, they would not have been there.

Update 3:

grnlow: You make a good point here and there is a lot of truth to it. It makes me sad that your doing it for man and not God. I used to be a part of a "religious group" not a JW, but just as religious. Trouble was they lacked what was most important. The Holy Spirit, man had taken His job away.....

    Hi Don,

I think first of all we should all be praying for our current President and those we currently have in authority over us ... this is biblical.

I Timothy 2:1-3 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for ALL men, 2 for kings (presidents, etc.) and all who are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.

That did not answer your question. however. I do believe we should be asking God to guide us in our search for choosing a president. I think we should be like the Bereans (Acts 17:10, 11) and checking things out about each man that was nominated for this great honor and pick the one that closest fits the standards that God has set forth in His word.

Qualities needed by people with positions.

    Character

    1. Humility (Phil. 2:3, 4)

    2. Obedience (Rom. 16:19, 17)

    3. Sincere (II Cor. 1:12)

    4. Courteous (I Pet. 3:8-12)

    5. Unity of mind (Rom. 15:5-7)

    6. Hospitable (I Pet. 4:9)

    7. Peaceable (Heb. 12:14)

    8. Content (Heb. 13:5)

    9. Steadfast (I Cor. 15:58)

    Integrity

    1. Moral uprightness (Gen 20:3-10) Webster: b. Expressing or teaching a conception of right behavior c. CONFORMING to a standard of right behavior d. sanctioned by or operative on one's conscience or ethical judgment.

    2. Honest behavior (II Cor. 7:2) Open your hearts to us. We have WRONGED NO ONE, we have CORRUPTED NO ONE, we have DEFRAUDED NO ONE.

    Wisdom

Prov. 23:23 Buy the truth, and do not sell it. Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.

Ecc. 9:16-18 Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised. And his words are not heard. 17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard ather than the shout of a rule of fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; But one sinner destroys much good.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

You would be better off praying for God's Kingdom and forget voting. Neither one, though both seem to be honorable men, will actually be able to solve a single problem without creating 5 more.

Neither will they be able to effect matters to the good, on a world scale. They do not have the power, nor the wisdom needed. Whatever they wish to do at the very simplest, will require many more people that are in agreement to get it done. This has never been the case for the government since its inception.

You should pray for both. You should research each and based on that cast your vote. There are other candidates also. Why limit yourself to just 2. Explore all the options that is why God put them out there.

God did not put Pharaoh or Pilot in office. The group that had the power did that. You forget God gives you freedom of choice and you are assuming everyone chooses to follow the path of God. remember when satan tempted Jesus he showed Jesus many of the Kingdoms of the world at the time. He told Jesus if you bow at my feet and worship me I will give you domain over all these Kingdoms. Jesus did not tell satan they were not his to give. therefor you have to consider the possibility that satan had and still has domain over many of the worlds kingdoms and nations.

I also believe in the power of prayer, not just at the time of elections, but every day. As Christians, we need to seek guidance from the Holy Spirit in all matters. Good question, God bless!!!

1 Timothy 2:1-2 - "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty."

I think prayer is definitely a good option in this case, my prayer would not be that I vote for the right person but rather that the person who wins is up to the challenge of the office. My prayer would be that whichever one of those men wins the election that they listen as God guides them in their decision making.

Praying that God places the right one in office and that our country is blessed by their leadership.

Pharaoh and Pilot wound up doing evil things, but they were not basically evil people put in a high place.

Campaigning is useful but righteous prayer will bless more people...

I enormously a lot agree along with your guy or woman diagnosis. different than i could upload some thing, and that's that Hillary could have a greater useful shot at beating McCain for my area. they're going to, as you reported, have greater smart multi-project debates and arguments. yet my best difficulty is that I see Obama having a lot concern with Hillary, somebody who isn't even all out attempting to ruin him - she has to maintain in the limitations of her party to three quantity the place it incredibly is worried. however the Republican Hate device has no limitations and that they're going to consume him alive. If he shall we Hillary get to him so unquestionably how in the international is he going to handle the Karl Rove devotees who're so good at what they do? we easily have the be conscious "swiftboating" as a extensive-unfold area of yankee vernacular now because of them. Hillary has slayed the Republican beast formerly. they have been attempting to nail her to the wall for many long years, and failed miserably each time. McCain won't attempt to swiftboat the two one himself, which will come from each Republican business enterprise and another Republican baby-kisser that exists. i've got considered Obama stutter and stammer one too many circumstances while Hillary has gotten him rattled to have a lot faith that he is going to have the flexibility to climate the Republican attack coming his way. i think of it could make the nicely-known of an Obama McCain election sink to the point of 2004, or worse - and the biggest value to pay for anyone could be dropping the election to him.

If you believe in a god, then he/she/it/they are in heaven or equivalent, and not on this planet. As human beings we should sort out our own problems - a being whose existence is questionable shouldn't be relied upon, or nothing would get done. Use common sense and vote for Obama. Get the bloody Republican scum out of office!

I'd say praying God's will would be best.

I've always believed that God is in control in all matters. I still vote but pray for guidance in doing so.

    God bless you, (((Don))).
