Do garbanzos (chick peas) make you gassy?
I love those little things so much that I could eat a whole can. Should I be careful? LOL

No they do not. Try this recipe:
1 can garbanzos
2 spoons pesto sauce
2 spoons olive oil
2 spoons lemon
Mix all together in a bowl, chill for an hour.
Add Parmesan cheese if your diet allows.

The reason that canned garbanzos are making you gassy is because you probably didn't rinse the beans before you ate them. After you open the can, drain the liquid and rinse the beans with cool water. That should get rid of some of the enzyme that makes you feel bloated and/or gassy.

Eating canned chick peas should not make you gassy.
But if you soak and cook your own, just make sure that you do not cook the chick peas in the same water that you soaked them in.
Not changing the water is a sure fire way of causing 'gassiness'.

They don't do that to me, but I know a few people who have 'issues' with beans & chick peas. I would either get some gas-x or beano if you are planning on eating them around other people until you know how it'll affect you! :-)
Hope this helps!!

Depends on the person, most beans can make a person gassy, but I never had that problem.

Not gassy, but if I eat a good amount of hummus then I do get a queasy tummy feeling. Not good eats...and I LOVE hummus!

We eat beans on a daily basis so our body's are used to it. I've heard of some people putting baking soda in their beans to help neutralize the enzyme in them.

yes if you eat them at night then they do tend to be gassy. in india we add ginger or garlic to garebanzo beans so that they digest easily.
