What's the best price that I can expect below MSRP?
I'm looking at buying a 2008 RAV4. It's getting late in the season and I feel I should have some bargaining room. The MSRP is around 22000.
What's the best price I can expect? Where should I draw the line? What's the best negotiating technique?

Go to Consumers Report website. Purchase a report for the car you want. It will tell you everything you need to know.

Usually dealers mark their cars up by about 12 to 15 %. So I usually go with 15% and always end up getting about 10% lower than MSRP. So for a 22000 car, I will offer them 20,000 out of the door and will be willing to walk out if the dealer wont budge. Also another strategy can be that you call around to the different dealers and ask them the out of the door price for the car and then take their offer to another dealer. The other dealer will meet or beat the price. I paid about 1500 dollars less on my previous car purchase this way. The car was about 19800 out of the door, I walked out with the car for about 18400 with some extra goodies. Hope that helps.
