Do we really have to encourage anyone to read the bible? Whats the point?

DO you think it would bring more confusion and despair OR enlightenment???

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Honestly. Bible is confusing. I think its not meant to be read by anyone or ordinary individual- and the purpose of theologians are much more in dire need to reexplain to those who have read it on their own.

With its hidden meanings some taken it literally to a point at fault. Some more reasons for those other religion to point out errors which they find illogical therefore subject to much criticism ,debate and questionable reliability or authenticity.

(MY PERSONAL OPINION).

What is your opinion?

Update:

Sirius> You got a point, I kinda miss out the historical value of it but still some events are in question. But regardless, Until science proves otherwise it could give us an idea what event took place during that time long long time ago.

In all honesty? I know more Atheists & other non-Xians who've read the whole Bible than I've known Xians.

As one of those who've read it (& am encouraging her daughter to read it) I respect it as one of many holy texts & that's it.

The Bible is not necessary for salvation. Besides, which of the over 50 versions of the Bible in English alone is the one true Bible of the Word of God?

From a godless person's point of view, of course you would not see any value in God's Word, so we do not expect you to encourage others to do what you yourself have no interest in doing.

The Bible is far from confusing. It is the most fascinating book that has ever been written, and most likely God's being the author is the reason why this is so.

The Bible can open your mind and start you on a spiritual journey to your Creator. Don't dismiss it. Read it.

    There is no "we" here.

You should not be teaching anyone the Bible as you do not understand it - by your own admission you find it confusing.

The Gospels are to show forth Jesus Christ to the world and the Epistles are for the redeemed in Jesus Christ.

I'm so very glad that your opinion that the Bible should not be read by just anyone, myself included I guess, has no authority and can't take from me what God has given.

Best for you to stay out of the pulpit; no ordinary (read: unsaved) person should be there, you know.

There are many confusing verses in the Bible, but there are also many very understandable ones. Paul referred to the Bible as the "unsearchable riches of Christ". No one has ever understood everything in the Bible, but I've never attempted to get something new from the Bible without learning something. Here's an example of an understandable verse.

(Act 16:31) And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

If you want to learn the history of ancient Hebrews then the Bible is for you I don't think anyone should just go to some one and be like this is the only truth because their are many ancient books that exist.

It depends some may see it as confusion and despair some as enlightenment. Don't encourage it to anyone though,it's all stories, fairy tales.

The point is that we get faith through hearing and hearing through the word of God. The Bible is the living word of God. When you read His word, you are drawn closer to Him. It is a mystery, but if you go into God's word with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you will gain a unique perspective that is just for you. You will be amazed at how your understanding increases with this guidance and will be in awe when He directs you to just exactly what you needed at that particular point in your life.
