Depends, its hard to say who's earning money and who's losing nowadays. Bigger names like Rick Hendrick, Richard Childress, and Jack Roush is Very high.

Robby Gordon and Wood Brothers gotta be breaking even.

This is the difference each team changed in value from 2007-2008 (in millions):

    Rick Hendrick 37

    GEM 22

    Joe Gibbs 11

    RCR 6

    Jack Roush -2

    2008

Rank, Team, Value, Revenue, Operating Income

    1 Hendrick Motorsports (4/2) $335 179 21.3

    2 Roush Fenway Racing (5/4) 313 173 29.6

    3 Joe Gibbs Racing (3/2) 184 116 11.7

    4 Gillett Evernham Motorsports (3/1) 150 96 12.9

    5 Richard Childress Racing (3/3) 130 107 20.9

    6 Dale Earnhardt Inc. (4/0) 109 86 5.0

    7 Penske Racing (3/1) 100 85 8.6

    8 Chip Ganassi Racing (3/2) 94 78 5.5

    9 Michael Waltrip Racing (3/1) 86 65 -4.3

The value of the team does not reflect how much the owner makes, as in the above answer. It just tells how much the owner has invested in the team.

A team owner that has popular and/or winning drivers will make a lot more than one who doesn't. Look at Rick Hendrick, Jimmie Johnson wins races, therefore, he makes money. Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. haven't been able to buy a win this year (Michigan in June doesn't count in my book!) but, due to their popularity, they still make money for him. Casey Mears is highly underrated, so, I doubt that he makes much money for Hendrick. Hopefully, that will change next year when he goes to RCR. If you look at a team like Michael Waltrip's, you have to wonder how they manage to survive. He's lucky that he's not bankrupt yet.

It all comes down to if you win or not. The winning teams have the $$ so they keep winning. The also rans have less $$ so, usually they just fall farther behind.
