If you know someone who has MS, or perhaps you have MS, would you please share your story?

My cousin was recently diagnosed with MS. She is very afraid of what the future might hold for her. She will be coming to visit us in October and we do not know what to expect. But, she is very afraid and we do not know how to comfort her. We do not know anyone who is living with MS, and so we do not know what to tell her. I have hope that it is managable. Please share your story and your coping mechanisms. Feel free to descibe your pharmacological therapy and its side effects. Thank you very much.

    Hello.

I am a 50 yr old F with MS. I know exactly what your cousin is going through !

The truth is that living with MS isn't always easy , but it is a VERY manageable disease..there are so many more devastating disease out there ..This year alone I have watched 3 friends pass from cancer and 2 with ALS(lou Gehrig's disease)..and my difficulties cant compare with all that they and their family's had to deal with .

The best thing she can do is research the disease modifying drugs and get on one of them.I have taken Betaseron for 8 years. It has also been 8 years since my last major attack! It may be a good idea to start a light antidepressant as well..They really helped me..I take a very small dose of cymbalta which also helps with my nerve pain.

I think the best way to cope is to just stay positive, stay active exercise and eat right. I wont say there aren't days when I get down..but those days I just have to tell myself to pull up my big girl panties and get over it !

I am still very active..I work full time and enjoy time with my Grand Sons and this year I learned to ride a motorcycle ! I promise there is life after an MS diagnosis

    Good Luck !
