A little scared and nervous about possible gum grafts. Have any of you had these and do they hurt?

A few months ago at my last cleaning it was mentioned I might need to consider grafts. I do not have gum disease this is from aggressive brushing. Obviously I am more careful and gentle now but, have seen no improvement so far. I do not have roots exposed and it does not effect my smile so wondering if I really need to do it. That is another question should I consider it if I'm not in pain? I have googled the subject but didn't find much about the pain and how long it takes to heal.

I haven't had it done, but I have family who has. They say that your gums are fairly raw feeling afterwards for a few days, but it heals up pretty quickly. I hope this helps!
