Maybe he has a pinched nerve or something. I would reccoment lots of ice and lots of rest, and then begin throwing lightly after about 5 days and then see how it feels. If it still hurts, then you might want to take him to the doctor. But I think iceing it and resting it will do the trick!

Tingling in the fingers normally means it is something with the nerve. There is the ulner nerve in the elbow that will cause a tingling sensation in the ring and pinky finger of your throwing hand. If it is the shoulder, they need to do an mri, not just an xray. The xray will not show the ligaments, etc. The shoulder is very difficult to diagnose.
I would also try to be proactive and examine what might have caused the pain. Overuse, Poor Mechanics, Strength Imbalance?? If any of those, that might be the best diagnosis of all because you can make sure you will not have it happen again.

Lots of good answers here, but sometimes we skip right past the obvious basics that we all know: NO MORE BASEBALL UNTIL HE SEES A DOCTOR - one that specializes in sports medicine...orthopedist.. The rule for pitchers (which applies here...assuming throwing arm) is "when it starts barking at you, it's time to stop." That's universal. Pain is a pitcher's elbow or shoulder is not something you work through.
Something else, that I feel confident the D-1 pitcher who responded(that's division 1 baseball, by the way, top of the stack college players) will tell you is there is more to rehabbing a throwing arm than just the normal physical therapy for a non-athlete/non-pitcher. When the arm is 'at 100%' you will need to work on a throwing program so as to not redamage it and build it back up. Again, you need somebody who is a professional and does this for a living to guide you.

you will probably want to ask to be refered to an expert doctor if this quack is only doing an xray and says nothings wrong get rest heres a prescription. The type of pain you are talking about is not good. The shoulder, rotator cuff area is a very delicate part of a baseball player. It could come from any number of reasons, especially if his throwing mechanics aren't good. Remember, the arm is not built to throw overhand so basically all pitchers put alot of stress on their shoulders when throwing

It might be from over throwing. But your son's injury could very between a torn rotator cuff (which I hope nobody ever gets because it's horrible) or maybe he's just sore.
From my experience, have him take a few days off and ice TWICE a night. Once after school, and once before bed. Also take some ibuprofen if he's allowed. That takes some of the swelling down.
And when you ice, put the ice exactly where it's hurting.
GOOD LUCK

I think it might be torn rotator cuff and I had that kind of injury and it benched me from baseball for a year and when I came back from the injury, everyone literally went crazy for me because that kind of injury can be brutal on your arm and might cause your arm to be weaker than it was before. I really hope that your son doesn't have that injury because it was so painful that I could not sleep for 4 days straight because ugh! so painful!

I had a friend who had shooting pain in his arm and it was acutally in the back part of the shoulder and the doctor told him to take motrin or ibuprofren and after taking it for a few days the pain was gone.

for me,it is only the pains of the muscles that makes her shoulder in pain, don't worry there are the doctors to knew what is wrong about his shoulders, just take pain reliever for the min time.
