Egg-free lemon meringue pie?

Is it possible to make a lemon (meringue) pie--from scratch--without the eggs?

I know you need the whites for the meringue, but are the yolks necessary in the lemon curd?

Can I just leave them out, or is there something else I can substitute?

Update:

I still want to make it from scratch. Has anyone made it without the eggs or with egg substitute, and how did it turn out?

There are several egg substitutes. The sub has a coloring agent like turmeric to add color. Try that, I use it for a number of food items.

You can buy Lemon curd at health stores that you only have to add water to, no egg yokes..

You need the yolks for colour, flavor and thickening. Don't leave them out.
