  • Australian knitting pattern help?

I came across this knitting pattern that was published in an Australian newspaper:

    http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/59641364

From looking at the picture, I think I can safely assume that the "o" means yarn-over, but can anyone tell me what the "n" means?

  • I have one skein of yellow glow-in-the-dark yarn. What should I make?

I am a fairly advanced knitter and I bought this yarn a few years back without a clue what I would use it for. Now it is discontinued and I can't get more of it, but I could use it with other colours to make something. I'm just at a loss as to what would make the best use of this unique yarn.

  • What do people do when they don't or can't make Christmas dinner?

Honestly, I've had so many petty complaints about the Christmas dinner I made 2 years ago that I'd like to go out to eat, or maybe I'll just make macaroni and cheese.

  • Trying to push a wheelchair up the sloped edge of a sidewalk?

Our city sidewalks are sloped at the ends, supposedly to make it easier for people in wheelchairs. However, I had to use a manually operated wheelchair for a couple weeks and found it difficult to get up the other side once I made it across the crosswalk. After a few tries, I realized that I had to go up backwards!

    (1) What is the physics principle behind this?

    (2) What angle of slope would make it easier to go up frontwards?

    (3) Why wouldn't city engineers know this? Don't engineers have to study physics?

    (4) Don't hospital physiotherapists have to study physics too?

  • Olive Garden Canada former employees, I need a recipe?

I used to order the Sicilian Spritzer, a non-alcoholic beverage made with a mixture of juices and soda, and I really enjoyed it.

Now that we don't have an Olive Garden anywhere near us--and the ones in the US don't serve this drink--I would like to be able to make my own, but I haven't been able to find a recipe online.

Does anyone know how it is made?

  • Can I put wallpaper on the wood trim around a doorway?

We recently had our bathroom redone and they put white trim all around the door-frame. They said they couldn't match the trim in the rest of the house, which is stained wood; they said it is no longer available.

We can't afford to replace all the trim in our house, and I don't want to paint it all white because it won't match our beige and peach coloured walls and decor.

Is it possible to put wallpaper over wood trim?

  • How would Mr. Spock react to trick-or-treaters?

Or any vulcan for that matter. I am going to be a vulcan for Hallowe'en.

How would he greet them? What else might he say to them?

  • metal container for a planter?

I have a decorative metal container which I would like to use as a planter. I would like to drill some holes in the bottom to allow water to drain out, but is there anything else I should use below the dirt so that it won't retain too much moisture?

  • weed control in interlocking brick?

We have interlocking brick sidewalks and driveway, and we have a lot of weeds working their way up in between the bricks. I have heard about 'Magic Sand' that is supposed to suppress weed and grass growth in openings and cracks.

Has anyone used it with success? Are there any other products or suggestions?

  • I have a mulching question?

The mulch I purchased indicates that it is guaranteed for 2 years. The old mulch in our garden is about 10 years old and looks like dried up hay.

Should I rake out the old stuff before putting in more topsoil and mulch?

  • mould/moss in my garden?

About a month ago I planted a small garden in a container with good drainage and I used a moisture-retaining soil. We haven't had much rain and I've rarely watered it. The plants are coming up really well, but there is some green mould or moss growing on top of the soil.

How can I get rid of it without damaging the plants?

  • Reasonable estimate for a total accessible bathroom renovation?

Our very small (59" x 91") 3-piece bathroom needs to be renovated for my father, who walks with a walker. We'd like to replace the tub with a walk-in shower, change the toilet and sink, have the window bricked in and install a new fan. After all that, I think the floor may need to be redone as well,.

  • clear acrylic coasters--scratched?

I completed some cross-stitched coasters from a kit. The coasters are made from clear acrylic so you can see the cross-stitched design through them, but after years of use, they have become scratched to the point where you can no longer see it.

Is there some type of substance I can use on the scratches to restore them; or, if I buy new ones, is there some kind of plastic stick-on shield that will protect them from scratching?

  • What is a yarn sleeve?

I saw this item at a dollar store. Of course I asked the staff and no one knew, but one of them opened the package to look at it.

It is a long 'tube' of plastic mesh, but it doesn't look as though it would stretch to fit over a skein of yarn, so...

  • My friend is convinced she has a soulmate?

She is schizophrenic and told me that "the voices" say she is going to marry someone rich. She's convinced she knows who it is--a man who's already married and barely knows her. She jokes that he could get a divorce.

I don't think she's dangerous, but I worry that she is obsessing and might stalk this guy, so I told her that she shouldn't listen to the voices. She says that she doesn't want to listen, but she thinks that it might be God talking to her.

I don't believe that God would tell anyone that they are going to have an easy life. In the bible, any mention of God speaking to someone usually indicates Him giving a warning or telling them that they will have struggles and hardships before they earn their reward.

I know that my friend is not telling her psychiatrist everything. Is there something in the bible that will show that she shouldn't listen to the voices and that there is no such thing as soul-mates?

  • Egg-free lemon meringue pie?

Is it possible to make a lemon (meringue) pie--from scratch--without the eggs?

I know you need the whites for the meringue, but are the yolks necessary in the lemon curd?

Can I just leave them out, or is there something else I can substitute?
