Can I put wallpaper on the wood trim around a doorway?

We recently had our bathroom redone and they put white trim all around the door-frame. They said they couldn't match the trim in the rest of the house, which is stained wood; they said it is no longer available.

We can't afford to replace all the trim in our house, and I don't want to paint it all white because it won't match our beige and peach coloured walls and decor.

Is it possible to put wallpaper over wood trim?

Update:

I should have mentioned that it is the trim outside the bathroom that concerns me. The white inside trim goes well with the bathroom colour. And I am not sure whether it actually is wood or some kind of synthetic material.

    Hi There,

I am sure you can put wallpaper on the wood trim using a good adhesive.

But the real problem is "you need the proper trim for your bathroom".

I would look around and find the proper trim to replace what you now have.

Remove a piece of trim from another place in your home and take it to a lumberyard.

Ask the person there what type of wood it is and suggest how to match it.

Once you have the stained and finished the "proper" wood trim you can remove the white trim and use it for a pattern.

This is not a huge job, just be careful to use the correct nails to avoid splitting the new trim.

I usually predrill holes before nailing to prevent splitout. There is no trim that cannot be duplicated if you take the time.

    Note:

The installers simply did not want to take the time to find the proper trim (or they used what they had left over from another job).

    Hope this helps,

    Al

I'm sorry, but you think that will actually look better than the way it is? Putting wallpaper on wood trim is going to be tricky at best. Seems to me the best thing to do is either start over with a new door frame which has been stained to match (as best as you can) the existing trim, or strip the paint off of the current door frame and stain that. Wallpaper is going to look really weird on a doorframe, IMO.

the simple answer is yes, but, because it is in your bathroom area you may have problems getting it to stick over a long period of time due to the humidity. Ask for suitable adhesive at the hardware store. Alternatively, ask about paints on the market. There are some ingenious ones which, when applied, look like a wood grain effect. You may be able to get a close match to your existing trims.

You can, but it's a REAL bad idea.

Door frames are 'high wear' areas, and wall paper won't stand up.

( Just think of how oten you put a steadying hand on a door frame.)

There are 'wood grain' paint kits available.
