Should I waste my time and money buying Dvds?

Question

I'm always a little slow with the times. When Cds started getting popular, I was just getting into tapes. When Dvds were starting to get popular, I got hooked on buying VHS. Now I just got a new Tv and plan on getting speakers to make a nice little set up in my room and would like to get my Dvd collection up but it's like, is it worth it now that Blue-ray discs have come out? I know it's not widely popular but eventually it will replace the Dvd. Is it worth spending the money to have a nice Dvd collection when they might be going out of style in the next year or two? Or is blue ray discs a thing that won't catch on until much later when it's more affordable to a wider audience of consumers? Just wondering before I waste my money and then I have to go replacing them with Blues Rays in a little while.

Blu-rays will replace dvds in a few years, their sales figures are rapidly increasing and in approx 2 years it is predicted that they will be selling more than dvds, HOW EVER, dvds and blu-rays and Cd's for that matter are all on an 8cm disk, meaning unlike with tape decks and vhs player, they only need one sized player to to read them (they each need different lasers but even dvd ones are so cheap its worth companies putting in the extra lasers for backward compatibility).
So really there is no need to be concerned about the diminishing popularity of dvds or their successor blu-ray as most disk players will have the ability to play any format of disk.

Blu ray disks are great and a lot of blu ray players out there do upscaling so a regular DVD disk tends to look better on a blu ray player... so it all boils down to a tradeoff, but you are not wasting money if you happen to buy a regular DVD.

well, for what exactly are you buying them? more for entertainment than investment, right? might be a while before blu ray comes down. and when that happens maybe new tech will be on the market. you could wait forever. 

as long as your dvd remains working you will always have that nice dvd collection to watch. that doesnt go away just because new tech comes into the picture.

i just bought an hdtv and i dont know how blu ray looks on it but regular dvd looks DAMN nice.

blu rays are just dvds with more features and they run better so why waste money when dvds work fine
