External hard drives will work both on laptops and desktops. If you're talking about internal hard drives then they are different.
One tip to look out for when buying ext hd's, is whether it is usb powered. Some of the larger ext hd's require a power cord, so if you're thinking of taking with you, then make sure that it is usb powered.

A laptop's HDD is usually have slower RPM to save battery. Desktops have higher RPM. Any external HDD can be used on a laptop as long as it has the compatible cable and the laptop has the needed port. Specs should mainly be fast write and seek time.

No, it truly is the wonders of domicile windows. It has the drives to help any demanding rigidity. and in reality, domicile windows is so time-venerated, hardware builders layout their hardware to artwork for domicile windows, really of domicile windows operating for hardware ;) merely remember, get a good demanding rigidity. in the different case, it would want to destroy quickly. (demanding drives have the bottom existence of all hardware elements)
