Fall Foliage road trip to New England?

I am a corporate travel agent, looking to get away for about four days on a road trip to the New England states. I will be driving from Pennsylvania heading North. We are looking to travel up to Maine. Does anyone have a place we should stay? Or a route to take to see the best scenes in October? We do not need to stay in a large city, just looking for the best sites. Any help would be grateful. Like a little cottage town with the best lobster, etc.

"Northeast Harbor" is a village on Mount Desert Island in the town of Mount Desert in Hancock County, Maine, United States. It is located at 44° 17.75’N 068° 16.90’W. It is one of the more remote villages on the island and does not experience the same crunch of tourist activity found in the neighboring town of Bar Harbor. It is recognized as one of the prettiest villages on the coast of Maine, highlighted by a remarkably beautiful harbor filled in summertime with spectacular motor yachts and sailing ships. The town of Mount Desert has a significant summer population, and has long been a quiet enclave of the rich and famous. Residents include David Rockefeller (Seal Harbor), Martha Stewart (Seal Harbor), and Brooke Astor. The local waters are dotted with charming islands and offer some of the finest sailing conditions in New England. People are drawn to the cooler weather and activities found in Acadia National Park which literally surrounds the village with its thick pine forest crisscrossed with miles of hiking trails and carriage paths.

"Docksider" could be considered your classic Maine restaurant, with charming "Down East" waitresses, lobster to die for, unbelievable clam chowder.

As far as I'm concerned the Berkshires in Massachusetts are really beautiful during the foliage, I know at the summit of graylock mountain, there are motels rooms and even cottages to rent.

In the small town of North Adams there is a place called the Willows, beautiful place, very near the college town of Williamstown, from there I would pick up RT 7 through Vermont and up to Maine.

Sorry, no lobster around there, you'll have to wait to get to Maine!

Newport is extremely high quality yet there is not plenty to do around there. particularly some the 'cities' in New England (windfall, Portland, etc) are merely miniature variations of Boston. in case you do flow to windfall, check out the time table for WaterFire. The White Mountains (New Hampshire) is solid area for foliage, trekking, and outlet procuring, plus there is not any sales tax in NH) that's approximately 3 hours from Boston. Foxwoods and Mohegan sunlight are actually not too a procedures from there (those are indian casinos -- Mohegan is an extremely stylish place with lots of solid entertainment and eating places, whilst Foxwoods is extra common with hardcore gamblers and its the main important on line casino interior the international -- they seem to be a pair of million hour from Newport or 2 hours rapidly from Boston)
