Many things can cause symptoms like yours. Ranging from asthma to an infection or just a bad cold. When you are feeling as though you can't get enough air the best thing is to sit up. Take a few deep breaths and relax. (Keep a book or handheld video game by your bed to help you relax.) If you are starting to feel better lay down but make sure that your head is elevated, aka proped up with a pillow. the most important thing is to remain calm. Panic because it feels hard to breath will only make it worse. Good Luck

Relax, its nothing serious. Ive been having this problem for ages. For me it was linked with anxiety. The best advice I can give you is try not to think about it or let it bother you, But, if you absolutely have to think about it, then lie on the floor, bend your knees, put your hands on your stomach, and let your stomach rise as you breath in, separating your fingers, and then fall as you breathe out, bringing the fingers back together. Dont try and breathe deeply, dont breathe from the chest. Wait for your stomach to tell you when to breathe. They should be long and deep breaths. If it still bothers you, you can try holding your breath. Its never really helped me that much, but Ive heard others say that it does. Purely because the feeling of shortness of breath, is actually caused by your levels of Oxygen being too high compared to your Carbon Dioxide levels. (I.e. you are actually breathing too much, short and fast breaths.)

Best of luck though, it wont last.

I used to have this problem is well. Felt like my lungs couldn't get enough air. My dad has asthma. Could be that you inherited asthma from somebody in your family. I'd get checked out.

There are many causes and reasons for this. Please go see your doctor and let her/him find the cause. Good luck!
