Why is there always a searchlight on control panel and my document folders?

I use windows XP SP2 on a 4 year old HP computer. nearly 10% left on my hard drive of 140 GB. other stats: 248 MB ram, 2.5 Ghz Pentium 4. what's wrong with my computer? why is it taking long time to pull up the folder?

Your hardware is a little bit outdated. If you had more RAM (1GB/1024MB) it would probably help.

A few possible reasons: a) You might have a memory leak. I know limewire has a memory leak so if you have limewire uninstal it asap. b) Cause you only have 248 MB ram. I have a couple of gigabytes and my computer is still pretty slow. c) Not exactly a reason but try defragging your computer. Putting all of the files together making more free room for memory.
