Is my gerbil ok or should I take him to the vet?

On Saturday I cleaned out my gerbil's cage, and put the gerbils in the bath. When I put them back in the cage I noticed smudges of blood in the bath and one of them had a cut on his scent gland. The cut is healing ok, and he seems fine in himself, but his scent gland seems swollen or enlarged a bit. Is this normal or should I take him to the vet? It's not a lot bigger than his brother's but as they're such small creatures it seems like more.

It could be the start of a scent gland tumour. Watch it carefully and if it goes red and gets bigger take him to the vet. Compare your Gerbil's scent gland to tumorous ones on the internet. Good luck!

if you've got two gerbils together the cut probably happened in a fight, when i had gerbils they where always fighting each other.if the cuts been infected you should take him to the vet.

It's probably best to just call your vet he may say there is no need to come in just to make sure it is clean.
