Vista to XP files? writing files on one and opening them on the other. ?

If a excel file is written on a Vista operating system can it be opened and altered on a XP operating system?

    The OS doesn't matter. It's the version of Excel/Office (2003, 2007, etc) that matters.

    2007 uses .xlsx as an extension.

    2003 uses .xls.
