26 less than three times a number is equal to the number. ?

What is the number? I want to know the steps, please!!!

    Let the number be x

    Three times the number = 3x

    26 less than that = 3x - 26

    But we are saying that is also equal to the number:

    3x - 26 = x

    adding 26 to both sides

    3x = x + 26

    then subtracting x from both sides

    2x = 26

    x = 13

    Let the number be x. As given 3x - 26 = x. 2x = 26 ; x = 13. The required number is 13.

    let the number be 'x'

    so : 3x - 26 = x

    or, 3x - x = 26

    or, 2x = 26

    therefore , x = 13
