Was Ronald Reagan's age an issue in his 2nd run for the White House?

Even though he was older than McCain is right now.

    Yeah, but people voted on the real issues rather than his birthdate.

    Not as much as his 'aging' was. It was getting very clear that he was slipping, forgetting things, important things. Like what he was talking about. His Alzheimer's was beginning and it took a lot of shielding to protect his Presidency. Nancy did a great job as did most of his advisors. He never knew he was slipping away until much later. And he knew his lines, always. That helped a lot.

  • Yes, it was, until he blew away Walter Mondale in the debates by making a joke of it. Reagan was the consummate actor/performer. Even people who hated his policies liked him personally.
