Finding out gender before ultrasound?

I have my gender determination ultrasound at 20 weeks with my OBgyn, and that was the earliest they would let me schedule it. I'm now almost 14 weeks and it kills me to know I could find out if I could just get a peek inside...I looked into doing a 3D ultrasound but they won't do it unless you've already had the 20 week scan so??? Anyone have any other options aside from silly old wives tales? Any places they know of that might do an ultrasound for a non patient, etc?

it would be silly to waste your money on a 3d scan this early as the baby doesn't look all that cute in 3d right now. :) although the old wives tales are often silly and just for entertainment purposes there once was some truth to some of them so i don't completely dismiss them although i don't give them full credit either. the high/low thing was true for me...but its a relative high low, only i can tell the difference. the chinese gender predictor has over 50% accuracy, and its interesting and fun but not always correct.

they do have testing kits you can buy online, but i really think spending that much money when you will find out in 6 weeks is just a waste. try to find the fun in having to wait and see, like a surprise, instead of being antsy.

do something silly and fun like, start taking bets on what everyone thinks the gender will be and make the stakes something like, losers have to buy the baby a special *affordable* gift or something like that. try the old wives tales *except the drano* because they might keep you occupied and it might entertain you to see which ones ended up being right after all. try to concentrate on other aspects of the baby and your future accommodations for it; you could research child birthing techniques, enroll in child birth or child care classes to prepare you better. buy some books about your developing fetus or caring for your future baby. make a baby blanket or some other fun non-gender specific onesies for the baby. like tie dye! :) learn and research about birth plans or vaccinations or possible day care or preschool options for your future. there are tons of ways to prepare without knowing the sex and sometimes you just have to wait. :(

  • I have heard of something called Acu-Gen which you buy this kit I believe its $25 and then you have to pay a fee which their website says it $250 for the lab fee.. so its $$ but they test your blood to see if it contains the Y chromosome which would mean you have a male baby. There is fetal DNA in your blood.. I have read some negative reviews on this test though and i do not know much about it so do research if you were to use something like this

    the kit http://babygendermentor.com/product.php?pid=1

Here is a good article on it

Other than that all you have is wives tales which dont let get you to ahead of yourself. I had an ultrasound done at 14 weeks and they looked but would not tell because it was still "gray" in the area. Best thing to do is to wait and see.. With my twins I found out when i was 15 weeks, with this baby I will find out at 19.5 weeks.. I cant wait and im excited but it will be there before you know it

  • most likely you would be able to find out at 14 weeks. the babies genitals are not fully developed yet and could be mistaken for something they are not. they had you wait till 20 weeks for a reason, that is the best time to tell. 3D ultrasounds are best when the baby is further along as well. would like them to look now and tell you its a girl and then find out later its really a boy (which could still happen, but less likely) or would you rather them be right the first time? wait till 20 weeks, it wont take as long as you think. I'm 15 weeks and trust me time flies by, just enjoy where you are at and be patient.

Even if you could find a place to do one for you, it would only be a guess on their part right now. Earlier on, the boys and girls tend to look the same "down there", as the girls "parts" are a bit distended in the beginning. I found out at 17 w 2 d, and it was confirmed again at 19 w 2 d. Good luck.

Just ride it out until they can see the baby's bits & pieces. I've been dying since I found out I was pregnant and my doctor laughed at me when I asked how soon we could find out the gender. I was 6 weeks pregnant when I found out. :) You'll have plenty of time to think about it afterwards, but it's only 6 more weeks. It seems like forever, but don't think about it too much and you'll be there before you know it. I feel like I just found out yesterday and I'm almost 20 weeks already. It goes fast. Best of luck!

The only other way is the amnio but I don't think they do that unless you are at risk for birth defects, down syndrome, etc.

It is impossible to determine a person's gender by any means other than asking them directly.

You can determine the sex of their body, which will ordinarily be the same as their gender, but is actually a separate issue.
