Why do referees get taken in by diving so much?

I'm an Aldershot Town fan and it seems to be worse in the league. I have just been to two games where great strapping defenders were falling all over the place at the slightest push. Yes, I know it happens at all levels but what is so frustrating is that the refs are taken in by it time after time. If I and thousands of fans know it's a dive why doesn't the referee? A few years ago referees were give a directive to book players for "simulation" when are they going to start doing it?

Because they do not have peripheral vision, so they cannot see the incident clearly, and have to rely on there instincts and the assistants running the line..........but agree with you, we are definitely becoming a non-contact sport.

Totally agree with you. But the Referee can't see the incident clearly so they go with the assistant referee running along the line. But I agree with you.
