Question about baby's blankie?

My 15 month old son chews on his blanket. He never took a pacifier or anything, just the blankie. The problem is he only likes this one particular blanket and even though I wash it numerous times during the week, it is really starting to get smelly where he chews on it. How can I get rid of the odor? I am worried about using any harsh chemicals due to the fact he always has it in his mouth! Thanks for any advice!

Update:

I wish I could find one like it! I have another blanket exactly like it with a different pattern, he doesn't like it and another with the almost identical pattern but different only a single layer and he doesn't like that one either! I can't find this exact blanket anymore!

Try washing it in vinegar. Maybe even let it soak in the vinegar first and double rinse it. And then let it dry in the sun.

My daughter is the same way. Lucky for me she takes 3 different blankies. I only let her have 1 a day & take it from her & wash it & give her a different one. Is it possible for you to buy the same exact blankie then you can was them daily.
