I oversprouted quinoa. Can I still eat it? It tastes bad. It smells like vinegar. ?
I left it sitting wet in the strainer for way over 12 hours. Now it has a vinegar odor and tastes like that, too. I hate to waste it. Do I have to throw it out or am I safe still eating it?

your sprouts are decomposing (rotting). if it tastes bad, DON'T eat it. if it smells bad, DON'T eat it. if it looks bad, DON'T eat it. use the brains you have to avoid eating something that will harm you.

If you didn't rinse it well and often during the sprouting time, its best to not eat it, but you CAN use it as compost for any potted plants. When sprouting, anerobic waste builds up on the seeds, and must be rinsed off several times during the sprouting. Quinoa is such a soft grain, that it rarely needs more than about 8 hours sprouting time. I sprout mine in a mason jar which I keep in a dark corner of the kitchen-about 8 to 10 hours, with 3 rinses is all it needs. Make sure your rinse water is spring water-not tap, "purified" or "enhanced" water, as that can make the seeds to acidic due to the chemicals in the water.

Add it to your compost bin. It smells like vinegar because it's starting to decay. Remember the tomato scare? Bad meat isn't the only thing that can give you food poisoning.
