By heartbroken I assume you mean jailbroken?
If its the new jailbreak (2.0), then there are endless possibilities, just add a bunch of sources to cydia and installer
If it isn't jailbroken, and you want to get cool apps from the itunes app store, just search the top 100 free & paid apps list

buzzer - 2 player music quiz
winterboard - just plain helpful
customize - mess with settings tht shouldnt b messed with (slider image, slider words, any message display words, etc.)
dock - quick way to browse all apps
quickgold (i think thts what its called) - easy way to browse apps
not many good apps for 2.0 bc of appstore
