I have had spontaneous pnemothorax (collapsed lung) in the past VERY many times...my lungs are killing me!?
I know my lung hasn't collapsed again (I've had it enough times trust me I am VERY sure it hasn't) but my lungs are hurting ALOT. It's very painful. I don't know what's wrong and I don't know what to do. It really hurts. Any ideas?
It's spontaneous so it just happens. I was a medical mystery cause it kept happening no matter what surgery they did......it just literally feels like they are going to explode!
I have had it happen again though in the last 7 or 8 years though.
I don't have the lining between my ribs and lungs. Had operation where dr's took it out.

Spontaneous pneumothorax occurs because of the shape of your chest and lungs. Are you maybe tall and thin? If you are, then you are more prone to this. Also cigarette smokers are at greater risk as are recreational drug users who inhale deeply. Get checked for asthma and COPD as well.

I have had this too. I had pleurectomy about 4 years ago for repeated SPs. When I get this, I take it easy for a day or two and take ibuprofin every 6 hrs (400mg). My theory when mine gets like that is that my lung had a bleb pop, but the pleurectomy is working and is holding the lung up.
I also like to put a heating pad on that side on my back (mine always ached under my shoulder blade.)

Primary spontaneous pneumothorax
Although primary spontaneous pneumothorax, by definition, occurs in patients without a precipitating event or underlying lung disease, most of these patients have a variety of emphysematous lesions detected by computed tomography of the chest or during thoracoscopic surgery (4).
The pathogenesis of these blebs has been attributed to inflammation of bronchioles and cigarette smoking. In fact, the risk of having the lesions increases with increasing numbers of cigarettes smoked (5). Primary spontaneous pneumothorax is most common in tall, thin men in the third decade of life. Whether or not sex and body habitus have an impact on the development of subpleural blebs is unclear. http://www.arabmedmag.com/issue-31-08-2006/pneumol...

hmm- can you breathe ok? doesn't feel tight or wheezy?
it's hard to say without knowing more about what causes your lungs to have these problems, but i've had collapsed lungs too (felt like there was ice water in my veins, but not really PAIN).
could be infection- fever? doesn't sound like embolism.
given your history i'd call the doc. just tell the nurse the story, see what they say

are you sure you don't have pleurisy, that is a very painful lung infection. It also comes with fevers.
