Is late August / early September a good time to go to Disney World?
My wife and I are taking the kids on our first "BIG" family vacation (insert excitement here). We have decided to go to Disney World in late August 2009 to early September 2009. Is this a good time of year to visit Disney World?
I could use some first hand advice. How is the weather during this time? How are the crowds at this time of year? Where can I find a list of attractions or things to do at disney world?
Any other info would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm going to Orlando the same time as you next year. I've been going to Orlando and all the parks, especially Disney for many years. Unfortunately the weather won't be that great. It's usually hot, sticky and humid even in the thunderstorms! About 4pm onwards the thunderstorms strike and can last for ages. Very heavy rain, lots of lightning and loud thunder. In the morning it's slightly cooler and the sun is out for a while. It is hurricane season.
To cut down queuing time get fastpasses. The ticket you use to enter the park is the ticket you will use to get your fastpasses, which are free. Selected rides have a fastpass option - often the most busiest or thrill rides! On your map it will have a little FP symbol by it meaning this ride has a fastpass option. Go to the ride of your choice and nearby will be the fastpass booths. Insert your ticket and you will get a fastpass printed. But, beware, you can't get another fastpass for an hour. Then return to the ride at the time given and queue in the fastpass queue.
The parks are open for a lot longer, usually 9am-12am (but depends what day and what park). Extra Magical hours are added in the summer (basically the park is open an extra hour than usual). But, it is busy (less busy than late July to mid August), people start to go home to get back in time for the new school year (in UK).
Try getting the Disney planning DVD on www.disney.co.uk. If you are from the UK, you can buy two week tickets for the price of one week/five days. So £169 adults and (I think for kids) £149 for kids. You can also get a list of attractions from www.disney.co.uk then click on travel, then Disney World. There are also videos you can watch on there.
Please e-mail for more details as I would be more able to help you if I know a few more things about your planned holiday.
But, have fun and enjoy. :)

Labor Day sometimes can get hairy, but other than that, it's a great time to go for crowds. Weather will still be hot and humid, with possible hurricanes like is happening now. Go on the weather channel's website and look at the weather for the next few days. That's what to expect next year.
I would highly recommend this website: http://www.allearsnet/
It's GREAT for planning. They have everything listed. You might also like to get a guidebook so you can pass it around and let the kids pick out some things they want to do.

In a way yes and in a way no.
The crowds are not bad at all ans you get everything reaaallllly cheap because no one really comes to Disney around this time.
and heres why.
its florida during hurricane season. the weather wouldnt be good at all thats why no one comes then.

This is a very good time of year except for the weather.
The summer crowds disappear by mid-August and WDW resort prices are as low as they are all year. See this forecasting crowds at WDW: http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-first-fami... and this for Disney price seasons in 2009: http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-first-fami...
You can plan your visit from the thumbnail on this page--which ranks all the attractions and rides at WDW by their age-group appeal: http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-first-fami... or by checking out this example Disney World itinerary : http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-first-fami...
The problem with that period? The same reason why crowds and prices are low--you are smack in the middle of the peak of the hurricane season! See this page for more on chances of hurricanes by arrival date: http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-first-fami...
The same site has other hints on how to plan your trip!
Hope this helps and have a great trip!! Dave
