Why are people freaked out about raising taxes?
Here's the deal.....we HAVE to raise taxes. It's inevitialbe and part of living in our country.
WHy? Well partly because of the war in Iraq. But the main reason is because of the economy.
I say, raise taxes specifically on those who voted for Bush.....maybe that will teach them to vote more wisely next time. YOU can pay for the war he started while the rest of us try to survive and keep our house.

Because people are getting taxed to death as it is, thus part of the bad economy.....some counties, such as mine which is the country;s highest, get nailed worse than others. My state, county, and city are all Dem run....I've more than had enough of them. After 9/11, maybe a couple of people should just have gotten a weeeee slap on the hand.

You WANT to pay more taxes? Raising taxes is not "inevitialbe and part of living in our country." A responsible government could elect to reduce spending, instead.
Furthermore, if the tax rates stayed the same while the economy grew, the government would make more money WITHOUT raising taxes. So, growing the economy is another way a responsible government could make more money to cover its spending.
How do you grow the economy? NOT by raising taxes, which prevents small businesses from starting and causes large businesses to lay off workers.

To quote the same answer I just posted a few questions down to someone who appears to be on the other side of the political spectrum:
Rich Liberals Should pay more taxes?
Doesn't something seem fundamentally wrong about basing tax rates on a person's political affiliation?
Over the long haul, taxes assessed should cover the costs of the governmental services they provide. We should not pass the bill for today on to our grandchildren. Over the past few decades tax cutting Republican conservatives have run up the national debt beyond comprehension while the tax and spend Democrat liberals have balanced the budget. What's wrong with this picture.

Yes, I voted for Bush.
And there was this tax bill called EGTTRA passed in 2001. You might want to look it up since it impacted EVERY tax payer in America.
And as it potentially sunsets in 2011, all those tax cuts will disappear leaving a lot less paycheck for all Americans.
The federal government is not required to have a balanced budget. It does little to inform those who won't listen that we also shell out billions in aid to foreign countries besides all the other outflows of cash.
I keep my employment because I'm smart enough to get a job in a industry that demands workers. I keep my house because I pay my bills and don't live beyond my means. I survive becauese I'm accountable for myself, because I'm capable of doing so. And so is 98% of the population.
Instead of taxing political parties, I suggest we tax lack of intelligence. Those with low IQ should have to pay more in taxes because obviously they'd blow it foolishly anyway. (See how silly it is to talk like that!)
Nothing is certain but change. Thankfully, you live in a country that affords you the opportunity to say how you feel.

You start off raising a valid question, but then you descend into a silly, pointless suggestion.
Nevertheless:
Politicians are simple creatures. All they want is to keep their cushy jobs long enough to qualify for a gold plated pension. If they tell people they want to raise taxes, the populace will vote them out of office in favor of someone who promises a rosy future. Most voters don't have the education or common sense (apparently) to see the sense in raising taxes, so no politician wants to raise the issue.
We get the government we deserve. Remember, democracy only works until the people realize they can vote themselves bread and circuses. Enjoy the clowns.....
