Is it possible to buy a good TV in Australia for less than $1000?

I have never actually bought a TV before and while I was something nice, it doesn't seem possible to find anything in the shops that is less than a grand.

What are your suggestions?

i have not seen any LCD or plasma tv's that are any good for under a grand but if you shop around there are still some old tube tv's around like LG that are still good tv's they have a great picture quality, are more hardy then an lcd or plasma, are thinner then old tube tv's but if you want an lcd screen you are out of luck. there are budget brands at jb hifi and bigW that are relativley cheap but they are not reliable and won't last much longer then their warrenty period
