The grid computing doubt?

I was reading about grid computing after knowing about the LHC.... but i dont understand how those super computers transfer data at such a high speed.... because the LHC piles up data equal to a CD per sec.... but there are no net connections available on planet earth which can transfer data at a mind bobbling 700 mbps.... so how is the data transfered....... than how can there possibly be such a huge network???????????

Well , yes its mind boggling , definitely.

These deployments usually employs fibre optic(dedicated) SANs (Storage Area Networks) to the best of my knowledge.

A SAN uses multiple levels of mirroring + data ********* combined with fibre optic (GIGABIT speeds) connections among the various storage modules.
