Best Dog Treats That Clean Teeth?
What are the best dog treats that also clean the dog's teeth?
My beloved eight year old yorkie has to have a professional vet cleaning in a couple weeks and have a few teeth removed because I found out too late that I was supposed to take better care of his teeth - it sounds obvious now but I didn't think about it at the time that his teeth can have a build up of tartar, too!
Would something like Dentastix be OK - any other better product recommendations would be appreciated, thanks?!

hi, i buy t/d food from my vets this cleans there teeth, and feds them every day. Its very good. Dental sticks are meant to be good, but i dont think they work myself, but that's my opion. The best way is by cleaning your dogs teeth daily, but this is easier said that done. You can also by a product called plaque off around £10 for a small pot you mix it with there food each day. I have brought it but not tried it yet, as i have a poorly dog and i didnt want to make things worse. Good luck

The dental specialist I went to suggested that I give my dogs Greenies. Just one a day and supervise initially to make sure your dog is chewing it properly and now swallowing chunks that are too large.
I also brush my dogs' teeth 3 times a week and it helps.
Rope toys and the Nylabone and Kong rubber toys are also good to help clean teeth. The dental vet advised me not to give the Nylabone non-edible chews because they may be too hard (I never had any problems with them but have since stopped giving them to my dogs anyway).

I'm a fan of Bright Bites, which have the VOHC seal of approval
You should also brush your dogs teeth regularly...it's never too late to start! But dental disease can be very serious for pets, so it's good of you to take him in to the vet for a professional cleaning too!

The dentisticks don't work. (not for my dog anyway)
What i found that worked was the buy dog toothpaste and a toothbrush from the vets and do this every couple of days.
On top of this he has raw meaty bones which keep his teeth clean.
Most vets sell the nylabone chew sticks which are supposed to help, within a couple of chews my dog has eaten it, so not even touched his teeth really.

i feed a barf diet to my puppies, which if you google you will see lots of information on. One of my pups was left in a flat which i went to with four dogs and a few pups and i liked her, she wasnt being looked after at all and her gums were black. So i decided to switch her straight onto raw meaty bones (cartilage bones), and now the blackness from her gums hasnt gone 3 months later but it is definately more pink then black. My other puppy is an expert at eating bones but as she wasnt on this diet from 6 weeks of age i had to hold the bones in one hand and teach her to chew it.

I have fed Bully bones and pigs ears for years .... have never had to pay for a dental on any of my dogs.
Natural marrow bones are good for cleaning teeth too.

Raw meaty bones. My small dog enjoys chicken necks, she gets them a couple times a week.
And after the cleaning, brush the dog's teeth several times a week. (Make sure to use dog toothpaste, human toothpaste is poisonous to dogs.)
