I bred and trained Arabian horses for over twenty years, and was the leader of a horse 4-H Club. Since selling our farm a few years ago, I changed my focus from horses to my Greyhound dogs and now am on the board of directors of a Greyhound Rescue Group. One of my rescued racers is a licensed Therapy dog and we do many things with Rainy ... such as children's reading programs at the Library, nursing home and hospice visits. I enjoy helping others, that is why I come here to answer questions.

  • Site to try wall colors?

I need to paint several rooms, and I was wondering if there are any free websites where I can upload a photo of my rooms to and "try" different colors on the walls?

I want to make some pretty drastic changes, and have low ceilings ---- so color is going to be a big factor.

  • Is any one else having problems with the questions in the dog section displaying properly?

When I look at questions to answer, they show only a couple new questions, all others that display are 4 days old. Yesterday they were showing old questions also.

  • What do you think of the new law in Arizona (USA) outlawing the selling of Puppy Mill Puppies in pet stores?

A federal judge in Phoenix, Arizona set a new rule that will warm the hearts of all the animal lovers in the whole world. Now all the dogs and cats that are sold in any pet store must come from animal shelters, rescue groups or non-profit organizations. This rule will encourage people to adopt, and this also will help save more animals in shelters. It will stop putting money into the pockets of puppy mills.

Around 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized each year in the United States simply because too many people give up on their pets, and too few people adopt from shelters.

Would you support such a law if it was proposed where you live?

  • Would you adopt a tripod?

I have one rear-leg amputee who is the best dog ever.

I am also fostering a young greyhound who is a front leg amputee. We have been fostering her since October. And even with advertising on the rescue's website, on petfinder, on Facebook and Craigslist ---- we can not get people interested in her.

So I wanted to pick everyone's brains to see what your concerns would be with a tripod. Maybe I just need to help the group update or change the way we are presenting her to the public. (?)

Is it because she's considered "defective?" And - I am not going to tell you where to find her on the internet, as I am NOT advertising her here. I just want any ideas from other dog owners on how to make her look more attractive to adopters.

I do want to add that when we adopted our tripod a couple years ago, he went to two different groups trying to place him, and waited over 6 months for our home to come along ..... and he was heavily advertised on the internet.

  • What do you think about Oprah having Michael Vick as her guest tomorrow?

I always thought that Oprah loved her dogs and was and advocate for dogs. She never "rips a new one" on one of her guests. Will you watch the show Thursday - or send a message (and make the ratings go down) by turning your TV to another channel?

What are your thoughts on her inviting him to be on her show ?

  • Need favorite dog treat recipes?

I am involved with a Secret Santa gift exchange on a dog board I frequent. I would like to make a batch of dog treats and enclose the recipe as part of the gift. Does anyone have a nice simple and yummy treat recipe that they would be willing to share that doesn't use cornmeal or wheat flour in it?

If we get lots of fun recipes posted here, all of us can share them in the upcoming holiday season.

  • Who thinks the show Pit Boss is a joke?

I watched a couple episodes of Pit Boss last night on Animal Planet.

How can you take someone serious who does "rescue" when they don't even have Shorty's Rescue registered with the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue?

With this show it makes it all look like they are doing this for the profit of a television show, not actually for the dogs. With out the 501(c)3, they do not have to account for any of the donations, or show where the money goes. When they take in a dog, they just call all the other rescues and beg them to take care of the dog. They don't even foster their own dogs.

If Shorty was really as dedicated as he says he is on fixing these dogs and not breeding them, then why on earth isn't his OWN dog, Hercules, neutered?

Do you think that this show should be cancelled - and have Animal Planet give the air time to real rescues that do the right thing, not just talk up a good story?
