Need favorite dog treat recipes?
I am involved with a Secret Santa gift exchange on a dog board I frequent. I would like to make a batch of dog treats and enclose the recipe as part of the gift. Does anyone have a nice simple and yummy treat recipe that they would be willing to share that doesn't use cornmeal or wheat flour in it?
If we get lots of fun recipes posted here, all of us can share them in the upcoming holiday season.

There are a lot of recipy in the internet, search youtube as well. you can substitute chocolate with carob.
here's one recipy that my puppy really loves
Cheezy cookie
3 cups flour
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup shredded cheese
1 egg (beaten)
1 cup milk
direction:
-mix the dry ingredient
-pour in the vegetable oil and egg and milk until it becomes 1 big ball
(makes an elastic dough)
-with a rolling pin, roll dough to 1/2'' thickness
-cut into desired shape and bake for 25 minutes at 400 F
-cool on rack and store at room temperature.
another yummy recipe...
3 cups kibble four(crush your dog's kibble in a food processor until it has a flour consistency)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup shredded cheese
1/2 cup bacon bits
1/8 cup cooked shredded boneless skinless chicken breast
1 egg (beaten)
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup low fat, low sodium chicken broth
direction:
-mix the dry ingredient
-pour in the vegetable oil and egg and milk until it becomes 1 big ball
(makes an elastic dough)
-with a rolling pin, roll dough to 1/2'' thickness
-cut into desired shape and bake for 25 minutes at 400 F
-cool on rack and store at room temperature.
note:
if your dog is allergic to whole wheat flour, use brown rice flour, rice flour, rye flour, oat flour, barley flour or potato flour.(if use one of these flour, it will take a little bit longer to bake than whole wheat flour)
for training treats, cut into really small pieces. If you want, you can substitute the cheese to carob chips and it will make carob chip cookies (looks like chocolate chip cookies). if you want the cookies to look chocolate put 2and half cups of flour and 1/2 cup of carob powder. make sure your dog is not lactose intollerant. if he is then substitue milk with water/ low fat low sodium chicken broth.
freeze the remaining ingredient if not gonna be used withing a week.
also you can adjust the quantity of the cheese, bacon bits and carobs, you can also substitute them with chredded carrots if you like
let me know if this helps..
good luck.. have fun baking ...

Here's the one I use for allergic dogs;
Salmon treats Set ovwen at 375
Two 4oz. wild caught salmon fillets
1 raw egg
3 small grated carrots
2 tsps garlic powder (not garlic salt)
Put all the above into a blender and blend until smooth, add enough water, one teaspoonful at a time, to keep it smooth., then place in a mixing bowl.
Add enough RICE flour to make it a cookie dough consistency, the amount will depend upon the weather when you make this.
roll the dough into one inch balls and place on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with Pam.
Bake for 15 minutes cool and freeze. All my dogs love this.

I don't give my dog anything with grains in it because she has allergies, and I don't like the fact it's used as filler in so many foods and treats. I simply purchase freeze dried liver and use that as treats.
