What is the line that separates Dems and Reps?
Let's say I was from a different country. How would you explain to me the main difference between the two parties? Is it a culture thing, a money thing, an issues thing? Stereotypical answers are welcome, but please try and dig a little deeper. If you can explain it WITHOUT using the word 'left, liberal, right and conservative', you get brownie points. :)

Well, I personally think it is an obsolete line and that America should move beyond the (once appropriate) "2 party" system.
Generally speaking, dems are more oriented toward social programs. Reps towards defense and economy (lol). I don't even like typing those descriptions. I just want a return to common sense and reason honestly.

I don't think that very many Americans are in a position to tell the difference between those two parties. The fact is that there are very few differences between the two, but the constituents seem to feel that there is an enormous difference between the two. Democrats have been known to go so far as to label Republicans as fascists and racists akin to Hitler and Mussolini. Republicans have been known to portray the Democrats as communist, socialist, and regularly to call them liberals. Both tend to favor some personal liberties, but not all. Both favor governmental controls at the governmental level and at the individual level.

I like to borrow a description fro Larry Elder. Larry is a black political columnist and commentator. When asked the difference between Republicans and Democrats he summed it up like this. Republicans believe what they see. Democrats see what they believe. As a result of Larry's observation I think that Democrats work toward aspirations and hopes and Republicans work toward practicalities and what can and actually should be done.

Your restrictions generally prohibit explaining it to someone from a different country. You really need to include the history of the parties also. Today Republicans are more like the Democrats of the fifties. The Democrats have become socialists (that wasn't one of your prohibited words) that want to punish success and reward failure.
How's that?

Republicans are patriotic, Christians and believe in cutting taxes and less government so you can decide how you spend the money you work for.
Democrats recently have been unpatriotic/unsupportive of our troops on the battlefield and supportive of an unChristian candidate for president.
Democrats want government control of everything.
Democrats want to TAX TAX TAX and dictate who gets government help.

At this time there doesent seem to be much difference, both are CFR members working toward New World Order. The only candidate with any integrity is Ron Paul, who by the way is supposed to make an announcement tomorrow about this election.

Democrats are more for Abortion rights (women's right to choose), government providing for people, and taxing higher paid people, for homosexual marriage rights, and basically the freedom to do a lot of what you want.
Republicans tend to be more religious, falling into the category of no-abortion unless it's medically necessary, people getting an education and providing for themselves, tax breaks for wealthier people and businesses in hopes that it will create more jobs, and against homosexual marriage, but sometimes for civil union rights. They are more religious minded and not so much freedom to do as you wish minded.

Republicans lack fiscal responsibility. They drop taxes for the rich and continue to increase the national debt by over spending on the military and unnecessary wars. Democrats are more likely to spend on human welfare, education and infrastructure. They seem to tax more responsibly. Reagan/bush sr. and Bus junior all raised the national debt while democrats tended to lower it as a percentage of GNP. Please see the graph referenced below. US National debt Graph.webloc. Dems represent the poor,
Reps represent the rich,
The middle class gets screwed by both!

Democrats believe in letting the people have a freer reign over their beliefs. Republicans rule by a strict religious code. Just how I see it.
