variety show refers to a combination of various talents shown in different genre while talent show is on a specific or certain talent that you posses no more no less.

The game show Tattle tales was very annoying. Love Connection was pretty bad too.

at my school we have a variety show every year and you have to audition for it
but for a talent show you don't really have to audition and it is usually a contest
