PETER N, there are too good reasons for a man to marry. How about being a legitimate father to future children and being loved by his wife? Anyway, getting back to the question. A bad reason for anyone to marry would be: for money, because they think they are getting too old, or because they can't find someone they really love, so they settle with someone they don't.

Bad reasons for marrying someone aside from financial and pressures from friends and family: just because he got you pregnant, because you feel you are getting old, because he will be a good father, just because you want to get married and he is your only choice and because he reminds you of your ex that you still love.

I know a chick in the air force who bullied a guy from the army into getting married because she needed an extra income to continue her posh life style; the army guy went along with it because he just got back from deployment so he was lonely and horny, and apparently she was a freak in bed

I also know another army guy who is about to get married because he's 20 and all of his friends from basic training are already married and he's "tired of being alone" (not all of them are happily married but he refuses to see that). The woman he is marring is 27, has 2 young children and alot of health problems, so she is more than willing to use his loneliness to her advantage and get some good healthcare for herself and maybe someone to help raise the kids.

And finally, I know about 4 different men in the army who married women they barely knew so that they could get paid more and be allowed to live off base.

Some people get married for a variety of bad reasons. I think you should only get married if you are in love, that person knows who you are and what your about, your finacially secure, and mature enough to handle a commitment like marriage.

1. Accidental pregnancy

2. Because you THINK you can CHANGE your S.O.---My big sis is paying for this one BIG TIME---Marriage cannot fix underlying problems and more often than not these problems are greatly magnified/worsened once married

3. Pressure from family and friends etc

4. To escape a bad situation from home

5. Because you feel you gotta settle for this one b/c Mr. or Mrs. Right may never come along

6. Lust (this too shall pass)

7. Anything other than unconditional love

The divorce rate is nearly 50%. And of those marriages that do survive many of THEM are very unhappy.

If your marriage fails, you can lose your home, financial security, children, happiness, psychological wellbeing, you name it.

So basically, any reason to get married is a bad one. You can be just as happy as an unmarried couple without any of the senseless risks that marriage involves.

For a guy there's never a good reason to marry. But there are certainly benefits to a woman or to children, just not to a man.

The only reason why you should get married is

If your in love,right for each other and ready to take on such responsibility. All other reasons...Don't get married. PERIOD

pressure from others if you're marrying young.

but there would be a lot of commitments.
