Whats the longest shot you made?

Whats the longest shot you made? What type of gun, ammo, scope and weather was it in. I'm not an avid shooter but am fascinated with long range shooting and would like to learn more about it.

I have made many shots over 1000yds with different quality rifles, semi-auto, bolt-action, & other, on paper and steel, but none will ever equal my favorite 'qual'. . . .

    The 'BEST' shot I ever made. . . . .

On Thanksgiving Day 1977, on the rifle range at Parris Island, South Carolina, I shot 239 out of 250 with a worn out USMC issue M-16 'poodle shooter', including a ten-shot group at 500yds no bigger than a 10" dinner plate. This got me the honor of Series High Rifleman (highest score out of 4 platoons, 16 squads, or 240 Marine recruits), as well as the platoon trophy for platoon 3321.

My longest hunting shot was when I was about 15. I shot a crow out of the top of a tree at approximately 127 yds (stepped off) with a remington bolt action 22 long rifle and factory open sights. I'm sure luck played some part in the shot but I was aiming at that crow.

A friend and I used to go to the river near my home and shoot tin cans, sticks, or whatever we took a fancy to with a ruger semi auto 22 pistol back 20 yrs ago and I have made shots at 150-200 yds on a soda can at that distance. Its just a matter of determining, thru trial and error, what the drop and wind are doing, then adjusting your point of aim accordingly for subsequent shots.

by range, I've lost because I don't have some .30 caliber rifle and a hi power scope.

    Marlin 925r Bariska 4x32mm scope

.22lr (used CCI CB long conical ball) bolt action

135 yards (or so says Google earth) small black bird of some kind

Very slight wind to the left, I just guessed the wind and bullet drop and fired the gun. At that range, if it wasn't silhouetted against a light background, I wouldn't be able to shoot it.

I originally estimated the range at 120 yards.

The other longest was hitting a propane bottle at 150 yards with a friend's Mosin Nagant. I was shooting at a propane tank to get it to explode like they do on youtube. I helped receive some of their ammo, since they live in LA county and their stupid city wouldn't allow them to mail order ammo. Com bloc 7.62x54r. Nothing else is known about the ammo besides its definitely made in one of the commie bloc nations. And that its real cheap and quality stuff.

I took a shot at a coyote one time with a 7mm-08 Browning BLR with a Leupold 3-9x40mm scope at around 500 yards. I don't remember what type of ammo was in the rifle, but I forgot to raise the crosshairs on the scope and the shot went too high and scared the coyote away.

Longest long range shot??? I shoot steel targets generally under 250 yards... Papers a little lame... I like to here the plink thru my ear plugs... Besides it saves me walking back and forth to see if I hit paper or not... I usually have this kid watch thru a spotting scope to let me know which way I'm off when I miss.... I'm old - So since I don't see that well I shoot no more than 250 yards but mostly in the 100 to 200 yard range -- to 100 yards open iron sights and scoped rifles further

If you are young it wont take too much practice to outshoot me...

Look over this website real well if you have an interest in long range shooting....

Source(s): When you select a rifle be sure to only use .223 ammo or .308 ammo.... They are common military cartridges used by hunters, police and competion shooter.... .308 and .223 is also inexpensive.... look at the links at the above website....

CZ452 Lux, 200 meters, . No scope. Factory open sights. This was in Plzeň, which you may know as Pilsen.

I could shoot a target that was 30 cm in diameter better than 90%. I could shoot a 20 cm target about 70%. Hitting 10 cm at that distance was more a matter of luck than skill.

As I've aged, this is no longer possible. My skills peaked around the age of 25. I am now over 40... :-(

a cimarron billy dixon model in 45-70 gov. pedersoli tang sight, front globe with spirit level. with a 340 hard cast bullet out of a lee mould on 46 grains of IMR powder, on a winchester case, cci magnum primer, at 2.55 OAL. used it in silhouette and had great results. 600 yards, 10 shots inside of a 10in circle isint bad for a 130 year old design. translates to less than an inch at 100 yards, with a bullet that is a half inch across. out a deer down at 300 yards offhand from the top of a barn at twilight, hit it like a train. you want to see some good shots, find a local range and their match schedule and go watch.

The longest one I made was not at a deer, but at a squirrel. The weather conditions were clear with just a slight breeze. It was with a Rugar 10-22 carbine with a 4x32 scope, you youngin's will understand when you get older and can't see anymore either...LOL speaking of the scope.

It was right at 80 yards when it was squatted in the fork of a walnut tree, I aimed just a tad high and got it right in the head.
