Hurts small business believe it or not. My mom and sister did own a small business until they sold it. They did make a profit but paid their employees a little above min wage, if that wage went up they would have to lay off workers, raise prices, or go out of business.
Small business provides nearly 90% of the jobs for this nation, we should not be hindering their growth and development by raising the federal min wage. If states wanted to raise the min wage in their state, i would be less against it. New York is a lot different than Montana, i don't think one system would work with both states.

Yeah, it is funny: Cons hate people sucking off welfare and yet they refuse to pay people a decent wage. Strange isn't it? Why not make it so the people can pay their own bills? Oh right, right, I forgot - the fact that I make $3.50 an hour just inspires me to "work harder" so maybe in ten years I can earn 6 bucks an hour - but until then I should work 80 hours a week (right? I mean that's what they do). Idiots.
P.S. Thank you for the info.

Raising minimum wage, raises unemployment. This is a fact.
Forcing employees to pay for a service from employees, requires them to get rid of the least productive - who are the folks who need the job the most.
Handicapped people, and the generally unproductive workers loose work first with every minimum wage increase. It raises the bar.
*I maintain that there should not even be a minimum wage. It would allow more people to work, and may even eliminate unemployment. It would also lower prices for consumers, and lead to better products and services.

GOOD! The reason everything has gone up isn't because of Bush, it's because minimum wage got so high! In California it is now 8 bucks an hour! I was hired at a shoe store with the minimum wage being 6.75 and as soon as it was raised the shoes went up 5 dollars each!

Maybe he's better at economics than he says he is.
Any time you impose an artificial floor or ceiling in any market, such as a minimum wage in the labor market, you create an artificial shortage of workers or shortage of jobs.
In this case, you create a situation where the minimum allowable wage is higher than some employers are willing to pay, and you create a shortage of jobs.
Economics 101.
Take a class.
