In Australia, you can get a learners permit at 16, and then have two years of FULLY SUPERVISED driving with a fully licenced driver, and have a log book to show they have driven at least 120 hours, including at least 20 hours at night and 20 hours in the rain.

When they get their licence at 18, the must display a red P plate front and rear of the car for 12 months. Zero alcohol, and only one passenger. Any convictions mean automatic cancellation.

If clear after 12 months they then go to a green P plate for a further three years. Still zero alcohol, but can carry more passengers. Still subject to strict penalties on misdemeanors.

This means that if they keep a clean licence for FOUR years, they can get a full licence.

Many other countries are following the Aussie example, as it is showing a much lower road toll than less enlightened countries.

This past summer a 16 year old hit and killed two people, he was negligent. Guess what, he wont be finishing high school with his friends, He went to jail.

Kids, you are the only ones that are going to be screaming over this. Adult will say "yeah! heck, let's raise it to 20!"

Should be to 21.

I agree with this decision 100 percent along with stricter and longer testing because 15 and 16 year olds are just too immature and that is not my opinion this is fact....

where are they doing this and if i get my licences now before they do it,will iget too keep it!? although if its 17 then i dont care because ill be 17 in october!

EDIT: BTW I ALREADY HAVE A SPEEDING TICKET FOR GOING 20 OVER IN A SCHOOL ZONE,WITH MY DRIVERS PERMIT!! theres no good excuse for what i did but what ever!

ok im 20, then i would have been horrified but now, some of the stupid things i did then , it wouldnt hurt raising it to 18 in my opnion
