What would you do or say to my contractor?

I have finally bought my house, signed all the contracts, and made my first mortgage payment. I decided to take a loan on top of my mortgage to hire a contractor to build a garage, new porches and finish my basement. I chose someone that had a bunch of references, lived near me and gave me the best price. I thought I did a good job interviewing him, we sat down to lunch and discussed what I wanted to do. After all the contracts were signed he got to work, first he did the garage, it came out just like he said 28'X32' with 3 doors, etc... Then on to the porches, at first they were good, after about 3 days I realized they never put sonotubes in just 4x4 on the ground because it was sinking. My bank came to give him a check for the garage and the porches part....she took one look and told him he had to put sonotubes under the porch before he could get paid. He was pissed! Of course he was starting on my basement the same day as she came up. He left for the day I guess to calm down. I understood...

Anyways after he calmed down the next day he came back to start demolition on the basement, I asked him a question about something we discussed and he said no hes not doing it because it wasnt in the contract, it was a new set of stairs. I called my mother because she was with us when we discussed what we wanted to do down in the basement. She came over and he went off on her then me, he told her that she has nothing to do with it, this is Tim's (my name) deal not yours, he then looked at me and said to keep "mommy" out of it. I stepped away before I decked him. I had to go back to work anyways.

Today I came home for lunch break and I noticed that my old stairs were on the driveway. I figured that he decided to put the new ones in to save face as I am paying him $40,000 total. I realized that they were on lunch break as well and decided to wait until they got back so I could thank him for doing the stairs. I walked up to him as he was getting out of his truck and started to talk to him, I said Ohh cool you are doing the stairs? Th......He interupts me and said I HAD TO MOVE THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE IN MY WAY! I WILL PUT NEW ONES IN BUT YOU ARE LUCKY BECAUSE I AM READY TO SAY **** YOUR MOM, **** YOU AND **** THIS HOUSE! Then he put his hand up to say dont talk to me anymore. I was livid, I had to go back to work so I said calmly I see how it is and walked away.

Now after about 6 hours I'm still pissed and want to fire him but we have a binding contract and he has already started the work. I want him to finish what he started but I dont want him talking crap to my family or doing shotty work in my house. What would you say to clear the air? I want to be able to be around MY house when hes here.

Pay him for the work he has done and then fire him in writing for using abusive and threatening language and and unprofessional ism. Tell him to exit your property are you will call the police. Use rest of the money for another contractor and start the process over again.

Do what lost soul has advised you and this guy will make you his prison btch! You never appease a bully, it is a bad strategy all the way around, they simply lose less and less respect for you.

he was only tryin 2 save face in front of the helpers, mommy has no place in ya'lls talks at all. he knows he screwed up, just by him a beer 1 day after work & tell him good job if he has fixed the screw up, praise will clear the air.

Using abusive language is against the law; fire him and tell him you'll file charges if he gives you any trouble.
